Inspiration for writing is all around us, from political events to Amnesty campaigns and in the individual injustices that pepper our daily lives.

Each writer finds their own source of inspiration. Some writers thrive on the challenge of being presented with an idea and we often suggest topics which writers can mull over as a starting point for their creativity.  Others, working on their own writing projects, or rattled by a particular event, or simply interested to explore a particular issue will bring along pieces of their own volition.   Therefore we aren’t prescriptive about subject areas or types of writing.

Many of the pieces presented to the group are a work in progress and meetings simply act as a prompt to put pen to paper, chew over and discuss. If there’s one universally accepted piece of advice routinely given to writers, it’s to leave all your inhibitions to one side and write.   Completion of a piece, editing, redrafting or completely re-writing can be left for another day.

We encourage members to bring along any type of writing.  The following is a potentially endless list which have been shared or would be welcomed in the future.

  • Poetry
  • Short Stories
  • Novels
  • Plays
  • Monologues
  • Songs
  • Comedy
  • Non-ficiton (some of the most compelling non-ficiton draws from creative writing techniques)
  • Testimonies
  • Reviews
  • Etc….

Electronic Candle is a recent compilation of our work, reflecting the variety of writing styles and genres produced by different members of our group, including a play which is a work in progress.  Please feel free to download the compilation, comment and join us – especially if you would like to take part in completing the play!
